The Role of Pigments in Epoxy Floor Coatings
2025-09-29

Any object is composed of many parts, each of which plays a significant role. Therefore, even the smallest details cannot be overlooked. Jiangxi Meikele explains the role of pigments in epoxy floor coatings.

Pigments provide color and hiding functions in coatings. The use of organic pigments can easily cause problems such as floating and blooming, and organic pigments have poor chemical resistance. Therefore, epoxy floor coatings should preferably use inorganic pigments with good chemical and weather resistance, such as chromium white, chromium oxide green, and iron oxide pigments.

The choice of filler significantly impacts the final performance of the coating. Proper addition not only improves the coating's mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, and hiding power, but also reduces volume shrinkage during epoxy resin curing, lowering costs and providing the coating with good storage stability.

At the same time, excessive addition can increase the coating's viscosity, making leveling difficult and complicating application. Fillers should primarily be fibrous or flaky with low oil absorption, moderate fineness, and stable performance, such as heavy-duty stone powder, quartz powder, and talc. This is the role of pigments in epoxy floor coatings. Even if it is very small, it is very important.
