Pearlite materials possess excellent dispersibility and good physical and chemical properties, thus they are widely used in the coatings industry. Mixing pearlite materials into any single-color coating creates a pearlescent coating, whose pearlescent and metallic luster effects are truly impressive.
Pearlescent coatings have been applied in numerous fields, including automobiles, motorcycles, daily necessities, and building materials. Pearlite materials have a lamellar structure, making wetting simple and rapid, but the polarity of the system's surface and the chemical properties of the medium or solvent must be considered. Pearlite lamellae are easily broken during dispersion; typically, simple stirring is sufficient for dispersion. If using dispersion machinery, only short-term mixing is permitted. Pre-dispersion and slurry preparation before adding to the paint is recommended.

Pearlescent materials, with their high refractive index, pearlescent effect, and viewing angle shimmer, offer coating designers a vast field for creating new colors and decorative effects. Silvery-white pearlescent materials impart a bright white pearly luster to coatings and can also be used as a base coat to create decorative effects. Pearlescent materials can independently provide entirely new and interesting colors and shades. These iridescent pearlescent materials with light interference colors can be formulated alone with resins to create clear pearlescent topcoats, or mixed with conventional transparent varnishes to create pearlescent colored topcoats.
